Jennie Shufelt is a health care, corporate, and commercial litigation attorney who helps health care and business clients manage regulatory risk, navigate disputes, and complete complex transactions with clarity and confidence.
Jen advises clients on a wide range of health care compliance issues, corporate, commercial real estate and transactional matters, and commercial disputes. Drawing on her background as an experienced litigator, she brings a risk-focused, practical perspective to all aspects of her work, including deal structuring, due diligence, compliance program development, and responses to government investigations and audits.
She regularly represents health care providers navigating audits and investigations, including audits by the Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) and investigations by the New York State Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. Jen also assists clients with compliance program development and review, OMIG Bureau of Compliance reviews, self-disclosures, and corrective action planning.
Jen represents clients in commercial and business litigation, including shareholder and ownership disputes, contract disputes, and other complex commercial matters. Her litigation experience informs her proactive counseling style, helping clients identify, prevent, and mitigate risk before disputes arise, while positioning them effectively when litigation becomes necessary.
Her health care clients include assisted living facilities, certified home health agencies, licensed home care services agencies, nursing homes, transportation providers, mental health clinics, hospices, OPWDD programs, and managed care and managed long-term care plans. She helps these clients navigate the complex regulatory frameworks governing their operations while addressing the broader business challenges common to all organizations.
Jen’s corporate practice includes advising for-profit and not-for-profit health care and non-health care clients on formation, governance, contracting, mergers, acquisitions and sales, and commercial real estate transactions and leases. She works closely with business owners and leadership teams on both day-to-day operational matters and long-term strategic planning.
Jen began her legal career, and has spent most of it, in New York’s Capital Region. Outside of the office, she is an avid equestrian, a decent pickleball player, and a twin mom.
