Jennie Shufelt is a Health and Corporate attorney who advises health care and non-health care clients on a wide range of health care compliance issues, as well as corporate and transactional matters. Jen is also an experienced litigator, and uses that experience to inform all aspects of her practice, such as risk assessment and mitigation, due diligence, and government investigations and audits. Jen utilizes her broad healthcare and legal industry experience to help clients develop practical solutions to prevent and mitigate risk and achieve clients’ objectives. She frequently presents at trade association conferences and other venues on compliance and other matters of interest to health care clients.
Jen represents a range of health care businesses in navigating the complex array of laws, regulations, and agency guidance under which they operate, as well as issues that all businesses face, such as governance, formation, contracting, and transactions. She has guided numerous clients through audits by the Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (“OMIG”) and investigations by state agencies such as the New York State Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. Jen develops and evaluates provider compliance programs, works with clients on compliance program reviews conducted by the OMIG’s Bureau of Compliance, and assists clients with self-disclosures.
She has advised a range of health care providers and plans including assisted living facilities, certified home health agencies, licensed home care services agencies, nursing homes, transportation providers, mental health clinics, consumer directed personal assistance programs, hospices, Office for People with Developmental Disabilities programs, and managed care and managed long term care plans.
Jen’s Corporate practice includes advising for profit and not-for-profit health care and non-health care clients in a variety of industries on day-to-day, and transactional and corporate matters including formation, contracting, mergers, acquisitions and sales, commercial real estate transactions and leases, and corporate formation and governance matters. She also assists clients with navigating and resolving shareholder disputes and other commercial and business disputes.
Jen started, and spent most of her legal career, in the Capital Region. She is an avid equestrian, decent pickleball player, and twin mom.
