Erika Wood is a Tax and Corporate attorney who thrives on building personal connections with her clients and translating technical details into practical solutions. She brings clever ideas, a smile, and optimism to challenging situations.
She advises individuals, for-profit, and non-profit entities on all facets of New York State and federal tax issues. Erika also counsels clients on broad-ranging corporate and legal matters regarding all fundamental events from ownership, operation, transfer, and the termination or sale of businesses across industries.
Erika’s tax experience includes advising clients on a wide range of tax compliance and reporting issues. She assists clients in navigating tax risks, obtaining tax credits and structuring transactions, including tax-free reorganizations. She also represents clients in disputes with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance and the Internal Revenue Service.
Her corporate law experience includes advising clients with respect to business planning, mergers and acquisitions, complex joint ventures, restructurings, commercial financings, and fundraising. Erika works closely with clients to draft agreements that reflect their business vision while mitigating risks. She also has experience drafting and negotiating complex partnership and operating agreements, shareholder agreements, stock, asset and real estate purchase agreements.
Erika started her career in New York City with Milbank LLP as a tax associate where she earned her LLM in Taxation from NYU. She expanded her practice to general corporate and M&A advisory services when she moved back Upstate to provide more holistic advice to her clients.
Erika lives in Medusa with her husband, son (the Shermans!), and dog Ziggy. She enjoys traveling, being outside, and loves a good beer. If you have been in a building with Erika you have heard her laugh.
